Elon Musk has denied reports that he had an affair with the wife of Google co-founder and billionaire Sergey Brin.

Elon Musk, the world's richest man, apologized to Google co-founder Sergey Brin at a party earlier this year for an alleged affair with Brin's wife, according to the Wall Street Journal.

People with knowledge of the incident told the outlet that Musk apologized to his longtime friend last year at a party at a Swank art festival in Miami Beach.

However, the Tesla chief denied reports of an affair with Nicole and differences with Byrne. "Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night! I've only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with lots of other people around. Nothing romantic," she tweeted. 

Nicole's attorney Brian Friedman also dismissed the rumors in a statement to the Daily Mail, saying: "Make no mistake, any suggestion that Nicole had an affair with Elon Musk is not only completely false, but defamatory. "

The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported that the Tesla chief had a brief affair with Shanahan. The article said the affair prompted Byrne to file for divorce from Shanahan earlier this year and ended the tech billionaires' longtime friendship.
