ISLAMABAD: The ruling alliance on Tuesday attacked PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the prohibited funding case by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after the party received funds from illegal sources.

The ECP, in a unanimous verdict, found that donations worth billions of rupees were received from the US, Australia, Canada and the UAE.

The ECP verdict said that PTI received funds from 351 businesses, including 34 individuals and companies.

In a tweet after the ECP's order, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz slammed Khan for being a "liar and money launderer".

"Khan is the only politician in Pakistan who has been proven in a single judgment with indisputable evidence to be a liar, corrupt, money launderer and working under the influence of external powers," he said.

"The idol of patriotism fell on its face today."

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, PML-N senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the verdict has proved that the former prime minister is the 'biggest thief'.

Abbasi said that Khan illegally obtained funding worth one and a half billion rupees.

Indian and Israeli citizens are also among those who give funds to Imran Khan.

The Muslim League (N) leader said that a huge amount was also received from the US, adding that the law does not allow taking funds from even a single foreigner.

If this money was for welfare, how was 550 million rupees transferred to the accounts of the political party? Abbasi asked.

"The whole conspiracy has been exposed before the public because PTI received funds from foreign nationals and companies to do politics in Pakistan," the Muslim League-N leader said. "The law will take its course on the matter," he added.

PPP leader Farhatullah Babar followed the verdict by CEC, ECP members, and Akbar S. Babar – who had filed the petition in 2014.

"It is most instructive that those painted as heroes by years of relentless propaganda have turned out to be villains. Today, those who stand out in the country's march forward are CEC #SikandarSultanRaja," he said. @ECP_Pakistan, and @asbabar786,” he said.
