ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) may issue a much-awaited verdict on the PTI foreign funding case this week, Daily Jang reported citing sources.

The report comes after the Financial Times revealed that PTI received funding from Abraaj founder Arif Naqvi's Wootton Cricket Club, which was developed through a charity match and an Arab personality.

The FT report provided ammunition to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and they demanded an early announcement of the verdict, which was reserved for June 21.

ECP officials, on condition of anonymity, told Daily Jung that the Election Commission will announce the decision on foreign funding in the first week of August.

Sources say that PTI will only lose if it files a reference against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja as certain matters which were previously hidden from public view will come to light during the hearing.

He said that ECP is a constitutional institution and will continue on the constitutional path.

"ECP will not bow down to any blackmail or come under any pressure. No political party is a favorite or non-favourite of the Election Commission. Those who are following the law are ECP. stand by."

When the attention of these sources was drawn to PTI Chairman Imran Khan's announcement of filing a judicial reference against Election Commission of Pakistan and CEC, they said that it was a smoke screen before the decision. There is an effort.

He added that the investigation into international money laundering has been completed.
