ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Monday that the verdict in the PTI foreign funding case – which was reserved for June 21 – will be pronounced tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10 am.
The Election Commission today released the cause list of the prohibited funding case. According to the cause list, the decision will be pronounced by a three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
The decision to announce the verdict comes after the Financial Times revealed that PTI had received funding from Wootton Cricket Club, owned by Abraaj founder Arif Naqvi. Funds were raised through a charity match and an Arab personality also raised a large sum.
The FT report provided ammunition to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and they demanded an early announcement of the verdict - in the case filed by Akbar S. Babar in 2014.
Earlier, ECP officials told Daily Jang on condition of anonymity that the Election Commission will announce the decision on foreign funding in the first week of August.
Sources say PTI will only lose if it files a reference against the CEC as some issues which were previously hidden from public view will come to light during the hearing.
The cause list was Relay Asad B. Election Commission of Pakistan.
"ECP will not bow down to any blackmail or come under any pressure. No political party is a favorite or non-favourite of the Election Commission. Those who are following the law are ECP. stand by."
When the attention of these sources was drawn to PTI Chairman Imran Khan's announcement of filing a judicial reference against ECP and CEC, they said that it was a smoke screen before the decision. There is an effort.
He added that the investigation into international money laundering has been completed.
